What season are you in?

In Melbourne right now, we are feeling the shift from Summer to Autumn.

One of my beautiful neighbours dropped off some homemade vegetable stock this week, and that night I made my first Autumnal soup of the year. It won’t be long until I make the first apple crumble of the season; I can hardly contain myself.

Of course, I can make apple crumble at any time of the year because you can buy apples any time of the year, not the best apples but apples.

But there are some things that you can only do at certain times of the year, and if you miss the season or the opportunity, you either have to wait until the following year or, in some cases, the opportunity is lost forever.

This year I basically missed the boat on my favourite bulbs and seeds, especially sweet peas which I fell in love with in 2020. At that time, they were the epitome of grace, abundance and delight at a time when delight and grace were hard to come by.

On Sunday night, I realised that it was time to put in some orders, and as I visited my favourite sellers, all I saw were sold-out tags.

Will I get everything I want this season? Unfortunately, not.

But when it comes to seed and bulb buying, I have another chance; that chance is next year.

But this is not always the case. Some seasons in life will never return.

As a mother of an eighteen-year-old adult, although I am in a new parenting season, the other parenting seasons have gone forever.

You are in a season right now. What season are you in?

Are you in a season of young children at home?

Are you in a season of building skills and reputation at work?

Are you in a season of challenges in your relationships?

Are you in the season of grief?

Are you in a season of transition?

When we can take ownership of our season, we give ourselves some respite and maybe even peace.

When we don’t own the season we are in or try to deny it, we can cause ourselves suffering.

Honouring your season is a way to honour yourself.

Note: I am in the season of surgery and recovery, so I will be in your inbox again on Friday, 17 March.

Wishing you a weekend of honouring yourself.

As always, I would love to hear your insights, thoughts or musings.
