The POWER of Art.

It is time to share some poetry with you because it's poetry.

The POWER of art is that it captures the vast essence of what it is to be human.

This poem was sent to me by Raelene Gooch, and I thought it would be stingy not to share it with you.

May it touch something in you. Or affirm a desire. Or validate your experience.

She who dreams

I want to speak - without my words being stolen

For my sentence to be full, accepted and heard

My views not drowned by bellowing sounds,

I dream to speak, in sentences full.

I want to feel - without guilt for my softness

For my anger to rage without cyclical reason

My emotions not viewed as a feminine trait,

I dream for permission, to feel as I do.

I want to pause - between never ending roles

A break between work and chores of home

My need to take time for myself in this race,

I dream of time, to exhale and sit still.

I want to choose my attire without fear

For the fabrics that drape me -  don’t define who I am

My clothes not used as an invite of crime,

I dream to dress in the way that I choose.

I want time between selfless care of others

From rearing my own to nursing the old’s

My love runs deep but this burden is too heavy,

I dream for support in the roles that I’m placed.

I want to decide - what I do with my body,

For it’s my true vessel and I decide who resides

My choices need not be justified or atoned,

I dream of autonomy, for my body is mine.

I want to be me - without fitting in ‘nicely’

For no labels are needed to tick that square box

My essence is me and the people I love,

I dream of a world where I am enough.

As always, I would love to hear your insights, thoughts or musings.

Wishing you a weekend of not fitting in nicely!
