In case you did not notice last week’s twist on usual events, I will point it out.

Last week’s Weekly Words landed in your inbox on Saturday morning instead of Friday morning.

I am pointing it out to you because you may have missed it, and there is a chance that you may also be struggling with what I shared I was struggling with; Covid Habits and letting them go.

Let me know your thoughts and what resonates with you.

It is the end of the month. It is the end of the month. Yes. It is nearly the end of October!

And as we transition into November, we seem to be in the season of transitions.

transition – noun: the process or period of changing from one state or condition to another

Globally we are being forced to transition from an individual capitalist focus to a focus on humanity and the global family.

In Australia, we are in an economic transition, and the climate crisis is relentlessly forcing us to transition to new ways of operating on an individual and national level.

In my family, we have the transitions of peri-menopause, finishing school, a new level of work responsibility, and the transitioning of friendships.

What about you?

If you are like me in the peri-menopausal transition, I invite you to watch this compelling 25 minute documentary by my friend Libby Chow. It showcases a diverse group of women sharing their experiences of peri-menopause and menopause. It is so important that women take full ownership of this transition, for ourselves and for others.

Giving Voice to Menopause

A multi-layered wellbeing and health project which aims to bring into public view and conversation the existence and multifaceted experiences of menopause. Menopause is experienced by one half of the population yet little is spoken of this profound stage in a woman’s life when significant physical, psychological and spiritual change occurs. This is causing harm in our culture. As the full experiences of women are denied, knowledge and education is limited and women are left to try and figure out what is happening to them in one of the most profound stages of life. This silence reinforces the shame and stigma of the menstrual taboo with harmful consequences for women and society.

This 25 minute film holds a moment of time and experience from eight humans filmed during 2021, either in perimenopause or through the transition to the post-menopause. The stories move, enlighten and entertain while giving voice to this mostly hidden experience. May conversation bloom from the viewing of this film.

I also invite you to share with any woman in your life and any man living with a woman going through this life stage. It would seem that many heterosexual relationships end during this transition time for women; it is a time of reckoning on many levels.

There is power in knowing when we are in any transitional phase, whether a forced transition (peri-menopause, redundancy, divorce) or chosen (moving house, changing careers, divorce).

When transitioning, there are many emotional stages, and it is better for us to acknowledge and honour these emotions than to ignore and minimise them.

Being aware and taking ownership is the first and most important place to start. If we do not name, own and honour our transitions, we can’t expect the people in our lives to either.

So, this month the 3 questions speak to honouring whatever transition you may find yourself in right now.

  1. Are you currently in a transitional phase; if so, how can you take ownership of it for yourself?
  2. What support do you need to honour this phase of your life, and when will you ask for it?
  3. What does kindness look like for you as you navigate this transition?

Transitions are rarely easy, yet they are a reoccurring theme in all of our lives. We are not meant to do life alone; ask for the support you need.

As always, I would love to hear your insights, thoughts or musings.

Wishing you a weekend (and beyond) of marinating in self-kindness.

2 Discovery Sessions remaining for 2023 Coaching:

Testimonial:

“Kemi’s book ‘POWER’ spoke to me so profoundly that I wanted to learn more from her and her understanding of women’s untapped potential. I was feeling self-doubt more keenly than I usually do, and was out of connection with my usual strategies. I was looking for a re-set and a reminder of my power! Kemi gave me exactly that. She is a brilliant and insightful coach. Her ability to explore with you your goals and the thoughts and behaviours keeping you from them, and her care as she walks beside you in the work to remove those limitations means every session is positive and uplifting. She challenges you in ways that are both kind and that hold you accountable, and creates a safe space for learning. I found this experience to be life-changing. I am a clearer, more confident leader, and am aware of strengths in me that I hadn’t known were there. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Kemi to all people everywhere!”

Testimonial:

“I was feeling very stuck, confused, self-doubting and generally fairly miserable. I was trying to make some difficult decisions from a career perspective, and was feeling lost and unmotivated. After every session with Kemi, I became more and more at peace with decisions I had made that I had previously been doubting.

Kemi was so affirmative and helped me see the courage behind my decisions and actions. I gained enormous clarity from our conversations. I back myself more, and have my confidence back to act as a leader both at work and in my personal life and volunteering activities. Kemi is absolutely incredible in every way. As a coach, she is challenging, asking tough questions that cut through to the heart of the discussion. But they are always the right questions. The acknowledgement at the conclusion of our sessions was one of the most affirming things anyone has ever said to me. I am definitely a different person. Kemi has helped me believe in myself, and really set me on a more positive path.”

Thank you if you have already left a review for POWER; I sincerely appreciate the time you took.

If you have already read POWER or are currently reading it, can you please leave a rating and review where you purchased the book.

It doesn’t have to be more than a sentence (though 200 words are gold), but written reviews significantly impact how many women are exposed to the book and its message.

To make it easy for you, if you are someone who never leaves reviews or struggles with what to write, here are some guiding questions:

  1. What is your biggest takeaway from reading POWER?
  2. Which Power Principle or chapter resonated with you the most and why?
  3. How has the book impacted your sense of power in the world?
  4. Would you recommend this book to other women?
