3 Questions – July

We return to ‘normal programming’ this week, and as it’s the last Friday of the month, it is time for 3 Questions.

If you enrolled in The Gift Of Asking Program, I look forward to our work together and the magic that will reveal itself during the program.

We are at the end of July, and I had thought to base this month’s 3 Questions on re-committing to a goal that you would still like to achieve this year and to create clear actions. But there is another process that is as powerful as re- committing, which is letting go.

While working as an actor in my early twenties, I lived in London. My make-up artist Kevin and I became very close friends and decided to have a spontaneous trip to Florence, Italy. By the time we left Florence, I had decided to learn Italian and then return to Florence to study art history for three months. This would, of course, require me to purchase many artisan journals made of Florentine paper and leather. One must be prepared!

When I arrived back in the UK, I began Italian lessons, which lasted about six months, because then I was off to Stratford Upon Avon to work with The Royal Shakespeare Company.

But I held on to the fact that one day I would return to my Italian lessons and then to Florence.

Many years later, on one tough morning at home with my young children, I had a thought, “I could be in Florence right now, with a handmade journal and quill, sketching.”

Then I went to “But you have to learn Italian first.” And that is when I realised I would not be learning Italian anytime soon. I thought of putting the goal off but then decided just to let it go, and the only feeling I had was one of pure relief.

My life had changed, my priorities were different, and I had made it up that I had to learn Italian before doing an art history course.

I let it go. And it allowed me to commit to what I was focused on at the time, being with my children.

What about you?

You have goals. Some may be long-held, and some may have been created for this year. This month’s 3 Questions are an opportunity for you to examine these goals. Maybe they are no longer relevant. Not because you are a ‘failure’, but because things have changed internally or externally (or both), and you are not afraid to acknowledge this.

3 Questions:

  1. Is there a goal that you are currently not progressing with?
  2. How do you feel about this goal right now?
  3. Would you give yourself more mental space and energy if you were to let it go?

We only have so much capacity. We only have so much energy.

We change. Our circumstances change.

Acknowledging this and letting go of some things may be your highest form of well-being and self-care right now.

As always, I would love to hear your insights, thoughts or musings.

Power Reviews:

Thank you if you have already left a review for POWER; I sincerely appreciate the time you took.

If you have already read POWER or are currently reading it, can you please leave a rating and review where you purchased the book.

It doesn’t have to be more than a sentence (though 200 words are gold), but written reviews significantly impact how many women are exposed to the book and its message.

To make it easy for you, if you are someone who never leaves reviews or struggles with what to write, here are some guiding questions:

1. What is your biggest takeaway from reading POWER?

2. Which Power Principle or chapter resonated with you the most and why?

3. How has the book impacted your sense of power in the world?

4. Would you recommend this book to other women?
