And here we are...

And here we are…

I admit that it is hard to know how to write my first weekly words of this year.

There are so many turbulent, upsetting, devastating and confronting things happening all over the world.

What I do know is that we are all in this together.

We are all on shaky ground, nothing is certain, and nothing should be taken for granted.

And yet with all that is going on in the world, there is still beauty, there is still love; and there is growth in change.

When we feel we have no control over what is happening in the external landscape of our world, we can easily forget that we do have ownership over our internal landscape.

I remember a beautiful quote I read, from Arianna Huffington, who said that her dad always told her, “When there are terrible things happening in the world, pay attention to the people who are helping.”

What great advice.

I read last week, (in my happy place, CountryStyle magazine), about a young man called Ryan Tate, who has trained his Koala detection dog Taylor to freeze when she detects the Koala odour, together they have rescued many Koala’s.

I found myself sobbing, reading the article, overwhelmed by his care and kindness and unique way to help.

In India, my family and I had lunch with an extraordinary man.  He has used his expertise in ecology to reinvigorate the South Indian waterways, which reduces the impact of flooding in built-up cities such as Chennai.

There are people knitting blankets for koalas, musicians providing connection in elderly people’s homes, businesses becoming more conscious of the wellbeing of their overseas suppliers, and yoga pants being made with recycled plastic bottles!

Your way of helping maybe through the brands you choose to do business with or by connecting with a neighbour you know is going through a hard time. Speaking up for a colleague at work, or even better empowering her to speak for herself, joining a local committee, or being a present ‘enough’ parent raising children in these turbulent times.

We all have our own unique ways to help, to support and to shine light into the lives of others.

There is an energetic invitation for us not to sit in overwhelm, but to ask ourselves the question, “How can I help in my unique way?”

Whatever you decide, it is enough.

And then, in time, you will be moved to do something else as another situation presents itself, and let it be enough too.

We can do only what we can do. It has to be enough. Otherwise, despair hits and then we are unable to do anything. And the world needs us to take action and lead in any way we can.

One of my actions is to write these weekly words to create space for connection, self-leadership, and growth.

I am thankful that we are all in this together, and I look forward to connecting with you this year.

Wishing you a weekend of doing what you can. Xxx
